In the early morning hours of July 19, 2016, the body of 41-year-old Donzie Taylor, a Black/African American male from Middletown, Connecticut, was discovered in Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain. A passerby found him unresponsive around 7:45 a.m. in a driveway situated between a baseball field and a skate park. Emergency services were called to the scene, but Taylor was pronounced dead upon their arrival.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later determined that Taylor had died
from a gunshot wound to the chest, and his death was officially ruled a homicide. Investigators from the New Britain Police Department, with assistance from state authorities, immediately began to piece together the events that led to his death. However, the case presented significant challenges from the outset. Police stated that they had no prior history with Taylor, and there appeared to be no clear reason for him to be in that specific area of New Britain.
As the investigation unfolded, those who knew Donzie Taylor mourned the loss of a man they described as kind-hearted, generous, and a great father to his son and daughter. Friends remembered him as a funny and smart individual who was always willing to help others. He was employed as a Junior Production Project Planner at the time of his death. Despite public appeals for information and an ongoing investigation, no suspects have been identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with his murder. The case remains unsolved, leaving a void in the lives of his family and friends, who continue to seek answers and justice for his untimely death.
