On a late Tuesday evening in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the life of 37-year-old Fredrick Richardson was tragically cut short. On August 16, 2016, the Black male was sitting in the passenger seat of a parked car on Noble Avenue when an unidentified individual approached the vehicle and opened fire. The sudden hail of bullets struck both Richardson and the driver.
Mortally wounded, Richardson was rushed to Bridgeport Hospital by the injured driver, but he ultimately succumbed to his
injuries. The driver of the vehicle sustained non-life-threatening wounds and survived the attack. At the time, Richardson's death marked the city's fifth homicide of the year. The shooting was described by police as an execution-style attack, with the suspect, who was said to be wearing a mask, fleeing the scene after the shooting.
The investigation into Richardson's murder was complicated by another family tragedy. Just three months prior to his death, Richardson's father, Fredrick Richardson Sr., had vanished without a trace. The younger Richardson had been actively searching for his father, posting flyers and seeking information about his whereabouts. Authorities acknowledged they were investigating a possible connection between the father's disappearance and the son's homicide. Despite their efforts, the case grew cold. As of early 2024, no arrests have been made in the murder of Fredrick Richardson Jr., and no suspects have been publicly identified. The police continue to ask for anyone with information to come forward.
