In the quiet town of Bethel, Connecticut, the life of Eddie Simon, a Caucasian male, came to a tragic end on March 13, 2020. Known in the community as "Eddie the Dog Guy," Simon was a dog trainer who had built a reputation over a decade for working with canines. However, his life took a dramatic turn just a day before his death.
On Thursday, March 12, 2020, Danbury police charged Simon with 15 counts of animal cruelty.
This came after animal control officers discovered 15 dogs in poor condition under his care. The charges followed a period of mounting criticism from former clients who had taken to social media to voice their dissatisfaction with his services, with some alleging their pets had returned in poor health. An online petition had also been started to draw attention to the alleged negligence.
The day after the charges were laid, concerned individuals contacted Danbury police regarding Simon's well-being. Unable to locate him at his home, they sought assistance from the Bethel police. The search for Simon led them to Pawloski Lumber in Bethel. There, authorities found Simon, who had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His death was ruled a suicide, and no officers or other individuals were harmed during the incident. The investigation into his death was handled by Bethel police detectives.
