On the night of June 12, 2021, a young Black / African American man named Ivan Whyte, 23 years old, drove to the Marriott Residence Inn on Bridgeport Avenue in Shelton, Connecticut. He was there to meet with some acquaintances who were at a gathering in one of the hotel rooms.
