L. D. Weaver, a 28-year-old male, was a deputy sheriff in Phillips County, Arkansas, whose life ended in the line of duty on June 29, 1948. He and another deputy went to serve an arrest warrant on a man when the encounter turned violent. As the deputies stood inside, the subject reached into a coat hanging on a wall, pulled out a pistol, and fired, killing Deputy Weaver instantly.
