In the spring of 1979, the life of Lieutenant Ronald Opie Mcpherson, a 27-year-old male, was tragically cut short. On May 2, 1979, the dedicated officer with the Arkansas Department of Corrections was participating in a SWAT training exercise at the Cummins Unit. It was during this training that an accidental discharge of a firearm occurred, leading to his untimely death.
