In the quiet town of Mountain Home, Arkansas, the life of 57-year-old Jane Marie Farley came to a tragic end on July 22, 2017. A dedicated physical therapist known for her academic excellence and community involvement, she was found deceased in her home. The grim discovery was made by her son, who returned to the residence to find both his mother and his stepfather, 54-year-old Kenneth Farley, unresponsive.
Emergency services were immediately contacted, and upon arrival, law enforcement
officers entered the home to a scene of profound tragedy. Kenneth Farley was found on the bedroom floor with a Ruger 9 mm pistol nearby. Jane Farley was located on the bathroom floor. The preliminary investigation conducted by the Baxter County Sheriff's Office, in conjunction with the Mountain Home Police Department and the Arkansas State Police, quickly pointed towards a murder-suicide.
Evidence gathered at the scene suggested that Kenneth Farley had shot his wife twice, once in the lower back and once in the left chest, before turning the weapon on himself and inflicting a fatal gunshot wound to his own throat. The bodies were sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for autopsies to officially confirm the causes of death.
Authorities identified Kenneth Farley as the sole perpetrator in the death of his wife. As the suspect was also deceased, no arrests were made in the case. The investigation was subsequently closed following the confirmation of the murder-suicide findings, leaving a community to mourn the sudden and violent loss of a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend.
