On December 5, 2017, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the bodies of 46-year-old Dory Ann Power, 60-year-old Brenda Sue Lawson, and 40-year-old Paul D. Power were discovered inside a residence in Hot Springs, Arkansas. All three victims had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigations revealed that the victims were acquainted with the suspect, 34-year-old Nicholas Matthew Lewondowski. Authorities arrested Lewondowski on December 6, 2017, charging him with three counts of capital murder. The arrest followed information from one of Lewondowski's friends, who reported that the suspect had sought assistance in disposing of the bodies.
Further inquiries indicated that the motive behind the killings was an argument over stolen property. Prosecutors initially considered seeking the death penalty for Lewondowski. However, in February 2019, they filed a motion to withdraw the death penalty as a sentencing option. Consequently, Lewondowski's trial proceeded without the possibility of a death sentence.
