In the early morning hours of October 4, 2018, the life of 41-year-old Freda Williams, a Black/African American mother and grandmother from Helena-West Helena, Arkansas, was tragically cut short. Williams was standing outside a neighbor's home on Cherry Street when she was fatally shot. The incident unfolded just blocks away from the lively King Biscuit Blues Festival.
Neighbors were startled by the sound of multiple gunshots, and soon after, Williams was discovered bleeding on the lawn.
