In the early morning hours of March 9, 2019, Calvin CJ Goforth, a 36-year-old male, was discovered deceased in his vehicle on a road east of Mena, Arkansas. A passerby found the United States Army veteran, who had served honorably in Iraq. An investigation into his death determined that he had sustained a fatal gunshot wound. Goforth was a family man, a loving husband and father to three children, who was known for his passion for helping others and his involvement in his children's sports
teams.
Following the discovery of Goforth's body, law enforcement officials began an investigation that soon led them across state lines. Authorities in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, notified Arkansas investigators that they had apprehended a suspect, Adam Green, at a local motel. Green was subsequently charged with the murder of Goforth.
In December 2019, a jury convicted Adam Green of second-degree murder for his role in CJ Goforth's death. He was also found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm and using a firearm in the commission of a crime. Green was sentenced to a total of 115 years in prison, with his sentences for the various charges to run consecutively. The prosecuting attorney noted that the tragic events were fueled by methamphetamine, leading to the untimely deaths of two young men. While incarcerated at the Tucker Max Security Prison in Arkansas, and as he was attempting to appeal his conviction, Adam Green took his own life.
