In the quiet town of Jasper, Arkansas, a devastating series of events unfolded, culminating in the tragic death of 71-year-old Margie Dianne Reno. On October 25, 2019, first responders were called to a house fire, a blaze that authorities would soon discover was deliberately set to conceal a grim scene within.
Inside the burning home, investigators found the bodies of Reno and her 33-year-old son, Dustin 'Cody' Reno. The investigation determined that the incident was a murder-suicide.
It was revealed that Dustin Reno had shot his mother before setting fire to the house and an outbuilding on the property.
Further investigation by the Newton County Sheriff's Office concluded that Dustin Reno had placed a pillow over his mother's head as she lay on a cot in the living room and fatally shot her. After committing this act, he also shot and killed a dog at the residence. He then set the fires and ultimately turned the gun on himself, taking his own life at his mother's side. Both mother and son were found to have died from gunshot wounds to the head. The case was closed as a murder-suicide, with no other suspects sought in connection with the deaths.
