In the early morning hours of June 28, 2020, the body of 19-year-old Nicholas Menchue was discovered in the 2000 block of West Short 17th Street in North Little Rock, Arkansas. An investigation revealed that Menchue, a male, had been shot in the back.
The events leading to Menchue's death began with a confrontation between two groups of young men. Menchue was with Tyresse Key-Shawn Pride when they encountered 17-year-old D'Anthony Williams and another teenager, Jordan Clark.
At some point during the altercation, Williams, who was armed with a revolver, opened fire. In addition to the fatal shot that struck Menchue, Pride was also wounded, suffering a gunshot to the neck.
Surveillance footage from the area captured Williams and Clark running with guns shortly before midnight. Although Pride initially provided a different location for the shooting, he later identified the two teens he and Menchue had a dispute with as 'DA' and 'Jordan.' When questioned by police, Clark admitted to being present when the shooting started but did not provide further details. Williams initially denied being at the scene or having a gun, but changed his account after being shown the surveillance video.
Four days after the discovery of Menchue's body, the North Little Rock Police Department arrested D'Anthony Williams. He was charged as an adult with first-degree murder and first-degree battery. In a resolution to the case, Williams, then 19, pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of second-degree murder and first-degree battery. A Pulaski County Circuit Judge sentenced him to 20 years in prison for his role in the shooting that ended Nicholas Menchue's life and injured another.
