In the late afternoon of Tuesday, November 17, 2020, the city of Hot Springs, Arkansas, was disturbed by an act of violence that would cut a man's life short. Officers from the Hot Springs Police Department were dispatched to the 600 block of Ouachita Avenue around 5 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound.
The injured man was identified as 43-year-old Shane Roy Sowers of Hot Springs.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Sowers succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The incident, which took place at a motel on Ouachita Avenue, immediately launched a homicide investigation by the Hot Springs Police Department.
Through the course of their investigation and by speaking with witnesses, detectives were able to identify a person of interest. The following day, on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, an arrest was made in connection with the fatal shooting. Leslie Sinclair, a 25-year-old resident of Hot Springs, was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder. Sinclair was subsequently transported to the Garland County Detention Center and was held on a $250,000 bond.
