Adam Wayne Lowry, a 29-year-old male, was killed on January 25, 2021, in his residence on Rounds Road, located east of Batesville, Arkansas. His life was cut short in an act of gun violence that also resulted in the death of his dog, Beau. The circumstances of his death unfolded after Independence County Dispatch received a concerning 911 call regarding a male individual with homicidal and suicidal thoughts.
Responding deputies arrived at the shared residence to find a disturbing scene.
Numerous firearms were present, and handwritten notes were scattered throughout the home. In an upstairs room, authorities discovered Adam's body concealed under a sleeping bag on a couch. An investigation by the Independence County Sheriff's Department and the Arkansas State Police later determined he had sustained a suspected gunshot wound to the head.
The focus of the investigation quickly turned to Adam's roommate, Cody Thomas Weathers, who was 28 years old at the time. A manhunt was initiated, involving multiple law enforcement agencies. The search for Weathers concluded the following day when he was located in Springfield, Missouri. He had been seen at a local library, where he was reportedly reading a bible and speaking with people about it. It was a citizen's interaction with Weathers that ultimately led to his apprehension, after Weathers confessed to shooting his 'best friend.'
Following his arrest, Cody Thomas Weathers was charged with first-degree murder. In a subsequent court appearance, he pleaded guilty to the charge. As a result of his plea, Weathers was sentenced to 30 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections for the murder of Adam Lowry.
