On the night of Monday, February 1, 2021, a sense of dread unfolded on a stretch of Arkansas Highway 367 in rural Pulaski County. Twenty-six-year-old Jermaine Kelley, a male resident of Maumelle, was riding as a passenger in a car driven by his friend, Jamarcus Battle. As they traveled south, another vehicle began to pursue them.
The situation escalated dramatically near the 11500 block of Arch Street Pike, when occupants of the trailing vehicle opened fire on Battle's car.
The hail of bullets continued for several hundred feet as the chase continued down the highway. Once the pursuing vehicle ceased its attack and fled the scene, Battle discovered that his passenger, Jermaine Kelley, had been struck by the gunfire.
Jamarcus Battle immediately called for help, and emergency services were dispatched to the scene. Tragically, Jermaine Kelley succumbed to his injuries. Special Agents with the Arkansas State Police's Criminal Investigation Division launched a homicide investigation, working through the night to gather evidence and develop leads in the case. Despite their initial efforts, there have been no subsequent public announcements regarding any arrests made or suspects identified in connection with the shooting death of Jermaine Kelley.
