In the quiet town of Van Buren, Arkansas, a horrific tragedy unfolded, leaving a community in shock and a family shattered. Paiden Nicole Beckham Priest, a 23-year-old female, lost her life on April 18, 2021, in a devastating act of violence that also claimed the lives of her young son and unborn child.
The events of that fateful day began to unravel when a neighbor placed a harrowing 911 call in the early morning hours, reporting the sounds of a heated argument followed by gunshots
emanating from the adjoining duplex. Responding officers from the Van Buren Police Department arrived at the Williams Street residence to a scene of unimaginable horror. Inside, they discovered the bodies of Paiden and her 2-year-old son, Grayson Alexander Beckham. Both had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
Also found at the scene was Paiden’s 24-year-old husband, David Wayne Priest, who was Grayson's stepfather. He was found with a gunshot wound and was initially the sole survivor. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. At the time of her death, Paiden was in her third trimester of pregnancy, expecting another son.
Investigators have since characterized the incident as a murder-suicide, with David Priest as the perpetrator. Authorities believe that after a verbal argument, David shot his wife and stepson before turning the gun on himself. A handgun was recovered at the scene. The case was described by a police spokesperson as one of the worst they had ever had to deal with. There have been no other suspects or arrests in connection with this case.
