In the spring of 2022, the life of 49-year-old Keisha E. Utsey, a Black/African American woman, was tragically cut short. On April 20th, police responded to a call about a shooting at a residence on Alicia Court in the John Barrow neighborhood of Little Rock, Arkansas. Upon arrival, they discovered Utsey inside the home, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her death marked the 21st homicide in the city that year.
Present at the residence at the time of the discovery was 35-year-old Jeremy Bass. Both Utsey and Bass were listed as residents of the Alicia Court address. Following an initial investigation into the fatal shooting, authorities arrested Bass in connection with Utsey's death.
Jeremy Bass was subsequently charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Keisha Utsey. The specifics of the relationship between Utsey and Bass and the motive for the shooting were not immediately released to the public. Utsey is remembered by her daughter and siblings.
