In the small city of Dumas, Arkansas, a young Black / African American man's life was tragically cut short, leaving a family and community searching for answers that have yet to come. On the morning of June 21, 2022, gunshots shattered the peace in the 200 block of South Oak Street. When Dumas Police Department officers arrived at approximately 10:28 a.m., they found 24-year-old Quantavius Jackson lying unresponsive on the ground.
Officers immediately began administering CPR, a desperate
attempt to save the young man's life until emergency medical services could take over. Rushed to Delta Memorial Hospital, the efforts to save him proved to be in vain, and Quantavius Jackson was pronounced dead from his injuries. The news of his violent death sent ripples of grief through his hometown, where he was a lifelong resident. A 2016 graduate of Dumas High School, he was known to many and was employed by Riceland Foods in the nearby community of Mitchellville.
The investigation into his death was launched by the Dumas Police Department, who urged the public to come forward with any information that might lead to an arrest. However, the days turned into weeks, and the weeks into months, with no suspects publicly identified and no arrests made. The case has grown cold, leaving a void for his loved ones, including his mother, his fiancée, and his two young children, a son and a daughter. His father had preceded him in death. As time passes, the community is left to remember a young life taken too soon, with the hope that one day, justice will be served.
