In the early morning hours of July 25, 2022, the peace of a Hope, Arkansas neighborhood was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Inside her home in the 2000 block of West Avenue E, 40-year-old Marcela Lopez, a female resident, was fatally wounded. The occupants of the house were startled awake by the shots that came from outside the residence.
Upon their arrival at approximately 4 a.m., officers from the Hope Police Department discovered Marcela Lopez on the floor, unresponsive, with a
gunshot wound to her upper torso. A family member was present and attempting to render aid. Emergency medical personnel continued these efforts and transported her to Wadley hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.
Investigators believe the shots were fired from a vehicle, suggesting a possible drive-by shooting. A four-door car, possibly a Dodge Charger, was reportedly seen near the home around the time of the incident.
