In the early morning hours of June 11, 2025, the city of Douglas was disturbed by a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 37-year-old Jose Diaz. Diaz, a male resident of the community, was discovered lying on a sidewalk around 2:00 a.m. having sustained gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The Douglas Police Department quickly launched an investigation into the homicide.
Their efforts led to the identification and subsequent arrest of two suspects in connection with the shooting. Francisco Martinez, 44, of Douglas, and Adrien Gonzalez, 32, of Bisbee, were taken into custody. Both men are now facing charges of first-degree murder for their alleged involvement in Diaz's death. They have been booked into the Cochise County Jail as the investigation continues.
