In the early morning hours of August 28, 2022, the life of 19-year-old Luis Lemus of Springdale, Arkansas, was tragically cut short. The young man was discovered in the parking lot of the Zabana Nightclub on South Old Missouri Road, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The incident unfolded around 2:20 a.m. when Springdale Police responded to reports of gunfire at the location. Upon their arrival, they found Lemus and immediately began administering CPR until paramedics could take over. Despite their efforts, he was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Surveillance footage from inside the nightclub indicated that Lemus had been at the establishment earlier in the evening, having arrived around midnight. However, the events that led to the fatal encounter in the shared parking lot outside remained under investigation. In the days that followed, a tip from a concerned citizen led law enforcement to a residence in Sarcoxie, Missouri. On September 1, 2022, two individuals were arrested at this location on charges of hindering apprehension, though the primary suspect in the shooting was not present.

The search for the man believed to be responsible for Luis Lemus's death continued for several months. A significant breakthrough in the case came on March 24, 2023, when U.S. Marshals located and apprehended 24-year-old Jose Reyes-Sanchez in Houston, Texas. Reyes-Sanchez was taken into custody on a warrant for capital murder in connection with the shooting. He was held at the Fort Bend County Jail, awaiting extradition back to Arkansas to face the charges against him. The arrest of Reyes-Sanchez marked a pivotal development in the investigation, bringing a sense of progress for those seeking justice for the untimely death of Luis Lemus.
