In the quiet outskirts of Waldron, Arkansas, a Sunday evening visit turned tragic for Eldder Santiago Bautista. On November 27, 2022, the 33-year-old Hispanic male was at a residence on Ross Creek Road when violence erupted. Around 8:45 p.m., a witness reported a shooting, and when Scott County sheriff's deputies and state police arrived, they found Bautista deceased on the front porch.
He had been shot, and his body was later sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory to officially determine the cause and manner of death.
The investigation quickly focused on a man believed to be staying at the residence, 33-year-old Luis Gabriel Olivares. Later that same night, a state trooper who had responded to the shooting call spotted Olivares near the home, carrying a rifle in a wooded area. He was arrested and taken to the Scott County Jail for questioning by Arkansas State Police special agents. As of the following day, formal charges had not yet been filed as the investigation into the homicide continued.
