On December 21, 2024, at approximately 4:30 p.m., 36-year-old Larry Duncan was found unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds in the courtyard of the Haverstock Hills Apartments, located at 5609 Aldine Bender Road in northeast Harris County. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
Larry Duncan, affectionately known as "Bear" by his neighbors, was a father to six children—two biological and four stepchildren.
His wife, Shana Morgan, recounted that a neighbor alerted her to the shooting. She rushed to the scene, arriving just a few buildings away from their residence, only to find her husband had already succumbed to his injuries. Morgan expressed uncertainty about why Duncan was in that part of the complex or who might have targeted him.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office has initiated an investigation into the homicide. As of now, no suspects have been identified, and the motive remains unclear. The Haverstock Hills Apartments have a history of violent incidents. Earlier in 2024, a man was fatally shot at the complex in May, and a 56-year-old woman was murdered there in September. Morgan mentioned that, aware of the area's reputation, they had planned to move out in the coming year—a plan now overshadowed by the tragedy.
In the wake of Duncan's death, his family is grappling with profound grief, especially with the holiday season underway. Morgan described her husband as a kind, generous, and outgoing individual, always willing to help others. The loss leaves a significant void for his children and the community that knew him.
