In the early morning hours of Thanksgiving, November 28, 2024, a gathering at a home in Clinton, Utah, ended in a tragic and fatal confrontation that left two men dead, including 35-year-old Jacob Pluim, a White/Caucasian male. The deadly incident unfolded at Pluim's residence located near 2600 West and 2250 North.
According to police reports, the violence began when a guest at the home, 40-year-old Keith Miller, attempted to leave the residence.
For reasons that have not been publicly detailed, Pluim confronted Miller and fired multiple shots, fatally wounding him. Miller was transported by medical helicopter to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
In the immediate aftermath of the initial shooting, another adult male who was present in the home armed himself. This individual, who has not been publicly identified, reportedly attempted to communicate with Pluim. The interaction escalated, leading the man to fire upon Pluim, resulting in his death at the scene.
Clinton City Police responded to reports of gunshots at approximately 1:00 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered both Pluim and Miller with gunshot wounds. Multiple witnesses inside the residence were questioned, and their accounts, along with evidence from the scene, corroborated the sequence of events. The Davis County Attorney's Office reviewed the case and ultimately declined to file criminal charges against the man who shot Pluim, determining that his actions were in self-defense to protect himself and others within the home. Authorities have stated that there is no ongoing threat to the public related to this incident.
