On Thanksgiving, November 28, 2024, a gathering in Clinton, Utah, took a tragic turn, ending the life of 40-year-old Keith Miller, a Caucasian male. Miller, a husband and father of two from Roy, was an invited guest at a home in the area of 2600 West and 2250 North for a holiday celebration. The night of what should have been a festive occasion ended in a violent confrontation in the early morning hours.
As the gathering concluded and Keith Miller attempted to leave the residence, he was
confronted by another man at the party, 35-year-old Jacob Pluim, who lived at the home. For reasons that have not been publicly detailed, Pluim fired multiple shots at Miller, inflicting fatal wounds. Emergency services were called to the scene around 1 a.m. Miller was found with critical gunshot wounds and was airlifted to a local hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. Pluim was also found at the scene with gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead inside the residence.
The investigation into the double-fatal shooting revealed a sequence of events that led to both men's deaths. After Pluim shot Miller, another adult male who was also present at the residence armed himself. In what authorities later deemed an act of self-defense and defense of others in the home, this individual shot and killed Jacob Pluim.
Multiple witnesses at the scene corroborated this series of events to investigators. After a review of the case, the Davis County Attorney's Office announced that no criminal charges would be filed against the man who shot Pluim. The identity of this individual has not been publicly released by law enforcement. Therefore, while Jacob Pluim was identified as the suspect in Keith Miller's death, no arrests were made as Pluim was killed at the scene. Police indicated that all parties involved were cooperating with the investigation and that there was no ongoing threat to the public.
