In Memphis, Tennessee, on November 22, 2024, the life of 23-year-old Rodneisha Denton was cut short in a tragic and violent series of events. The incident began with a heated altercation at a gas station involving Denton and a group of four other individuals. Following the initial dispute, Denton pursued the group, who were in a Mazda 6, in her own Chrysler 200.
The pursuit took a fatal turn at the intersection of Winchester and Winbrook Drive.
During the chase, a man identified as 22-year-old Da'Mariyon Edwards allegedly leaned out of the rear passenger side of the Mazda and fired a single shot at Denton's vehicle. The bullet struck Denton in the head, causing her to lose control of her car. The Chrysler 200 rolled over multiple times before coming to a rest. Denton was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Two other passengers were in Denton's car at the time of the incident, a 27-year-old man and a 1-year-old child. Fortunately, they sustained only minor injuries in the crash.
In the wake of the shooting, the Memphis Police Department launched an investigation and sought public assistance in identifying the individuals in the Mazda. The driver and two other passengers from the Mazda eventually surrendered to the police. They provided crucial information that identified Da'Mariyon Edwards as the shooter. On December 5, 2024, authorities arrested Edwards. He has since been charged with reckless homicide and aggravated assault in connection with the death of Rodneisha Denton.
