On December 12, 2024, at approximately 3:45 p.m., Spartanburg County deputies responded to a 911 call from 30-year-old Kayla Michelle Benton, who reported that she had shot two individuals in a motel room at the HomeTowne Studios on Mobile Drive. Upon arrival, deputies discovered two victims, 32-year-old Sherman Armand Sims and 38-year-old Susan Marie Gonzalez, both from Spartanburg, deceased from multiple gunshot wounds.
