On November 18, 2024, 19-year-old Ta'Arah Griffin-Carmichael was fatally shot in Columbus, Ohio. She was transported to Nationwide Children's Hospital by associates, where she was pronounced dead at 9:18 p.m.
The shooting occurred in the 200 block of Highview Landing, an area with several apartment buildings. Investigators determined that a round was fired through the window of an apartment.
Following the incident, Columbus police identified a 17-year-old male suspect and issued a murder warrant for his arrest. The suspect turned himself in to authorities on November 27, 2024. In addition to the murder charge, he faces four counts of felonious assault.
The circumstances leading up to the shooting have not been fully disclosed, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities have urged anyone with information to contact the Columbus Police Homicide Unit or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers.
