In the quiet community of Midwest City, Oklahoma, a story of generosity and kindness took a tragic turn on the evening of December 17, 2024. Annie Brown, a 62-year-old female, was known for her compassionate nature, often extending a helping hand to those in need. She had provided shelter to a man named Richard Dewayne Chambers, allowing him to stay in a shed on her property that was equipped with electricity.
This act of kindness would unfortunately precede a series of devastating events.
On that December evening, Chambers fatally shot Annie Brown inside her home. The motive for this violent act remains unclear. After taking her life, he stole her vehicle and fled, setting in motion a chain of events that would soon terrorize another community. The absence of Annie went unnoticed until law enforcement in Pontotoc County, investigating a separate and horrific crime, discovered her abandoned vehicle. This discovery prompted a welfare check at her Midwest City residence on December 18, 2024, where officers found her body.
The investigation quickly linked the suspect in the Allen, Oklahoma, murders of an elderly couple, Robert and Jackie Peliti, to the death of Annie Brown. The suspect in all three homicides was identified as 42-year-old Richard Dewayne Chambers. A multi-agency manhunt was launched, involving several law enforcement departments across Oklahoma. Chambers was eventually located and arrested on December 18, 2024, in Hughes County after being found hiding in vacant buildings.
Chambers faced multiple murder charges for the deaths of Annie Brown, and Robert and Jackie Peliti. Initially, the district attorney sought the death penalty. However, in September 2025, Chambers pleaded guilty to the charges. On November 7, 2025, he was sentenced to three consecutive life sentences in prison without the possibility of parole, in addition to seven years for other counts.
