On December 5, 2024, at approximately 6:45 p.m., Akron police responded to reports of a shooting at the Colonial Hills apartment complex on Colonial Hills Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered 21-year-old Eric W. Jones Jr. lying in the kitchen with an apparent gunshot wound. The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office pronounced him dead at the scene at 7:05 p.m.
During the investigation, authorities detained a 23-year-old woman in the Kenmore area who was believed to have information about the incident. After being interviewed, she was released without charges. Investigators recovered at least one firearm from the scene, which is currently undergoing analysis. As of now, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. Eric W. Jones Jr., born on December 8, 2002, in Akron, Ohio, was known for his dedication to sports, particularly basketball and football, and his strong work ethic, earning him the nickname "Grind Hard." He worked in construction in Summit County and was a member of Living for Christ Ministries Inc. He is survived by his daughter, Charm N. Jones, his parents, and numerous siblings. His funeral services were held on December 21, 2024.
