On December 19, 2024, a tragic incident occurred at the SureStay Hotel on Wernsing Road in Jasper, Indiana, resulting in the death of 27-year-old Lawrence Jonte Walker from Cleveland, Ohio. Around 2:00 p.m., Walker was involved in a verbal altercation in the hotel's parking lot with 20-year-old Jakahri Keyshaun Curry of Macon, Georgia. The confrontation escalated when Curry allegedly drew a firearm and shot Walker multiple times.
