On January 19, 2023, at approximately 10:45 p.m., Dallas police responded to a shooting incident in the 5900 block of North Central Expressway Service Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered 33-year-old Khurram Ali inside a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. Dallas Fire-Rescue transported Ali to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation revealed that Ali had arranged to meet with 20-year-old rapper Ghazi Harris, known professionally as 2G.Kaash, to purchase marijuana. A security guard reported observing two vehicles parked next to each other at the scene. After a brief interaction, Ali's vehicle abruptly departed, colliding with an unoccupied SUV, and a trash bag fell from his vehicle. The guard then heard a gunshot and saw two individuals flee from Ali's SUV to the suspect's car before it sped away.
Detectives examined Ali's cell phones and found messages exchanged with a Cash App user identified as $Kaash2G, associated with Harris. The communications included discussions about meeting times, locations, and images of what appeared to be illegal narcotics. Notably, a message sent shortly after the shooting inquired, "You gone try to runoff on me?" Additionally, handprints recovered from Ali's vehicle matched Harris's prints, further linking him to the crime scene.
On February 24, 2023, authorities arrested Harris during a concert at the Texas Trust CU Theatre in Grand Prairie. He was charged with the murder of Khurram Ali and is currently held without bond at the Dallas County Jail. This incident marks the second time Harris has faced murder charges; in February 2021, he was arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Irving, but a grand jury declined to indict him in that case.
