On March 1, 2023, 28-year-old Gerardo Garcia-Armendariz was fatally shot during an early morning altercation in San Antonio's West Side neighborhood. The incident occurred near a vacant home in the 100 block of N. San Ignacio Street, where Garcia-Armendariz was among a group of four men socializing. At approximately 4 a.m., the gathering escalated into a violent dispute, culminating in one individual drawing a firearm and shooting both Garcia-Armendariz and a 27-year-old man multiple times.
Emergency responders transported both victims to a local hospital, where Garcia-Armendariz was pronounced dead. The 27-year-old victim remained in critical condition at the time.
Following the shooting, the assailant fled the scene in a tan or brown SUV. Despite an immediate search of the surrounding area, San Antonio police were unable to locate the suspect.
