On March 8, 2023, at approximately 8:50 p.m., Everman police responded to a shooting in the 400 block of Lee Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 27-year-old Fort Worth resident Armond McGowan with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. First responders pronounced McGowan dead at the scene.
Investigators determined that McGowan and the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Kaysonn Earnest, were acquainted and had engaged in an argument that escalated into violence.
During the altercation, Earnest allegedly shot McGowan in the head.
Following the incident, Everman police, in collaboration with the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Rangers, launched an investigation to locate Earnest. On March 29, 2023, authorities arrested Earnest, charging him with murder. He was booked into the Tarrant County Jail with bond set at $250,000.
The Everman Police Department described the incident as an "incredibly senseless tragedy" and expressed their commitment to seeking justice for McGowan's family and friends. They requested that the community keep those affected in their thoughts and prayers.
