On March 16, 2023, at approximately 5:20 p.m., Dallas police officers responded to a shooting call in the 4200 block of Tacoma Street. Upon arrival, they discovered 28-year-old Ra'Jean Jackson deceased in the passenger seat of a black Dodge Charger, having suffered a fatal gunshot wound.

Investigators determined that Jackson had been shot earlier in the 1500 block of Duncanville Road, near West Illinois Avenue. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Devante Traylor, was believed to have been driving the Dodge Charger at the time of the shooting. Authorities arrested Traylor and charged him with murder. His bail was set at $1.25 million.

Further investigation revealed that Traylor had a prior history of family violence. In a 2019 incident, he was accused of hitting a woman, resulting in a misdemeanor charge of family-violence assault.

Ra'Jean Jackson was a Dallas native who graduated from Denton High School in 2012. She earned both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Grambling State University. She is survived by her mother, Ceselie Williams, and her two daughters, Legaci Felton and Loyalti Traylor.

This tragic incident highlights the devastating impact of domestic violence and the importance of addressing such issues within communities to prevent future tragedies.
