Jade Alyssa Alvarez, a 22-year-old Hispanic woman and mother to a young son, was found dead in San Antonio, Texas, on the morning of April 6, 2023. A police officer on patrol discovered her body around 6:30 a.m. on Capitol Avenue in the Beacon Hill neighborhood. She had been shot three times: once in the abdomen and twice in the back of the head.

Investigators learned that Alvarez had been in a relationship with 23-year-old Adam Byrd. On the evening of April 5, Alvarez was with a witness and used their phone to speak with Byrd. He asked that she be dropped off near Capitol and Fulton Avenues between 10:30 and 11 p.m. The witness dropped her off as requested, which was the last time anyone reported seeing her alive.

The witness identified Byrd from a police photograph, and authorities discovered he was already wanted on an active warrant for two aggravated robberies that occurred on April 1, 2023. Police apprehended Byrd around April 12, and during questioning, he confessed to killing Alvarez. He told detectives they had argued because he wanted to have a child with her, but she did not share that desire. Byrd admitted to shooting her during the argument with the same handgun he had used in the robberies days earlier.

Adam Byrd was charged with murder and two counts of aggravated robbery. He later pleaded guilty to the murder of Jade Alvarez and was sentenced to 40 years in prison. He also received two 15-year sentences for the aggravated robberies, which will run concurrently with his murder sentence. At the sentencing, Alvarez's grandmother, Rita Camacho, delivered a victim impact statement, saying the 40-year term was "a slap in the face" that "could never truly reflect the magnitude of our loss."
