The primary suspect in this case was Lisbet's 18-year-old brother, Cesar Olalde. Authorities were alerted to the situation when a co-worker of Lisbet's became concerned after she failed to show up for work. Accompanied by a family member, the co-worker went to the Olalde residence, where they encountered Cesar, who allegedly pointed a firearm at them. Cesar reportedly claimed that he had killed his family because he believed they were cannibals planning to eat him.
Following a brief standoff with law enforcement, Cesar surrendered and was taken into custody. He was charged with capital murder of multiple persons and capital murder of a person under 10 years of age, given that his younger brother, Oliver, was only six years old. Initially, Cesar pleaded not guilty to the charges.
