On June 17, 2023, 50-year-old Darrell Lee Childers of Keene, Texas, was fatally shot outside a residence in the 5900 block of County Road 308, southeast of Cleburne. Johnson County sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene around 5 a.m., where they found Childers unresponsive. Despite first responders' efforts to administer life-saving measures, Childers was pronounced dead at the scene.
