On June 23, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas, 46-year-old Melissa Ann Perez was fatally shot by police officers during a late-night incident. The confrontation occurred after officers responded to reports of a woman cutting wires to a fire alarm system at an apartment complex. Upon arrival, they encountered Perez, who appeared agitated and was wielding a hammer.
