On July 21, 2023, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Eastland County Sheriff's Deputy David Walter Bosecker, aged 57, responded to a domestic disturbance call at a residence on Highway 183 between Cisco and Rising Star, Texas. Upon arrival, Deputy Bosecker was immediately met with gunfire from the suspect, resulting in fatal injuries.
The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Cody Douglas Pritchard, was apprehended at the scene by additional responding units without further incident.
Pritchard was subsequently charged with capital murder of a peace officer and booked into the Stephens County Jail.
Deputy Bosecker's distinguished law enforcement career spanned over 21 years. He began his service with the Wise County Sheriff's Office, later joining the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, and subsequently served as a Game Warden with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. He also held a position with the Comanche Police Department before joining the Eastland County Sheriff's Office in 2021. In addition to his full-time duties, Deputy Bosecker worked part-time as a marine enforcement officer with the Cisco Police Department.
Born on July 13, 1967, in Perryton, Texas, Deputy Bosecker was a United States Marine Corps veteran and a graduate of Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. He was known for his dedication to public service, commitment to physical fitness, and love for outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Brenda Elton Bosecker, his stepson, grandchildren, parents, and other family members.
Funeral services were held on July 29, 2023, at the Brownwood Coliseum in Brownwood, Texas, where family, friends, and fellow law enforcement officers gathered to honor his memory and service.
In lieu of flowers, the family established the "David Bosecker Memorial Fund" through the First Financial Bank of Eastland County. The fund aims to provide necessary gear to enhance the safety of Eastland County Sheriff's Deputies, reflecting Deputy Bosecker's enduring commitment to law enforcement and officer safety.
The tragic loss of Deputy Bosecker has deeply impacted the Eastland County community and the broader law enforcement family. His dedication to duty and service to others will be remembered and honored by those who knew and served alongside him.
