On October 6, 2023, at approximately 10:46 a.m., the Hill County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting a man lying in the roadway in the 100 block of Bluegrass Street, near Whitney, Texas. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the body of 46-year-old Cory Shelton, who had suffered fatal gunshot wounds.
