On January 2, 2024, at approximately 11:25 PM, the Polk County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported shooting at a residence in the Kickapoo Marina Subdivision near Livingston, Texas. Upon arrival, deputies identified the homeowners as 42-year-olds William Kenneth Schultea and Britney Alicia Campbell, both from Livingston. Inside the residence, officers discovered the body of 50-year-old James Michael McClanhan, also of Livingston, who had succumbed to gunshot wounds.
