On February 12, 2024, a tragic shooting occurred at Thermal Polymer, an industrial facility in Angleton, Texas, resulting in the deaths of 66-year-old Darla Kay Murrell and her 37-year-old son, Devin Chase Murrell. Both victims were airlifted to a Houston hospital but succumbed to their injuries.
The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Bradley Jones, fled the scene in a 2015 silver Chevrolet Silverado. He was apprehended without incident near Surfside Beach and taken into custody at the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office on two counts of murder.
Authorities revealed that Jones's wife is a former employee of Thermal Polymer. However, the exact motive behind the shooting remains unclear. The Angleton Police Department emphasized the importance of community and law enforcement collaboration in swiftly apprehending the suspect.
Darla Murrell was a co-owner of Thermal Polymer Systems alongside her husband, Donnie. She was known for her love of travel, the outdoors, and her dedication to family and community. Her son, Devin, served as the Manager of Operations at the family-run business. He was remembered as selfless, hardworking, and devoted to his family, including his wife, Margret Megan Choate, and their children.
The tragic deaths of Darla and Devin have left the Angleton community in mourning. Funeral services were held on February 17, 2024, at Northway Baptist Church, followed by interment at Angleton Cemetery.
