On the evening of February 28, 2024, at approximately 9:55 p.m., the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to a report of a woman being harassed at the Shadywood Apartments located at 1708 Shadywood Lane in Mount Pleasant, Texas. Upon arrival, officers discovered Joshua Freeman, a 41-year-old resident of Longview, Texas, lying outside an apartment door with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services transported Freeman to Titus Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased shortly thereafter.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Freeman had been involved in a physical altercation with another male resident at the apartment's entrance. During this confrontation, Freeman was shot multiple times. The male resident involved in the incident was present when officers arrived and was detained for questioning. Authorities also identified and interviewed multiple witnesses to gather further information.

Known for his love of family and friends, Freeman had a passion for hats and Jordans. He is survived by his ex-wife, Gareshia Johnson III, his brother, Antone Freeman, and other family members. A homegoing celebration was held on March 9, 2024, at Rising Star C.O.G.I.C in Gladewater, Texas.
