On March 10, 2024, 34-year-old Ruthie McNeese tragically lost her life after being struck by a stray bullet outside the Vegas Hookah Bar and Grill in southwest Houston. The incident occurred around 1:20 a.m. when a dispute inside the establishment escalated and spilled into the parking lot. As tensions heightened, multiple gunshots were fired, one of which fatally wounded McNeese, who was an innocent bystander preparing to leave the venue.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Houston police launched an investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible. On March 20, 2024, authorities arrested 27-year-old Shanil Pradia in connection with the incident. Pradia was charged with murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. At the time of his arrest, Pradia was on parole until April 2026 for engaging in criminal activity.
According to court records, Pradia allegedly fired nearly 20 shots from two different firearms during the altercation. One of these bullets struck McNeese in the head, resulting in her immediate death. She leaves behind a 15-year-old son, Brandon, who expressed deep sorrow over the loss of his mother. In response to the tragedy, the family organized a balloon release in her honor and set up a GoFundMe campaign to support Brandon's future.
