On May 8, 2024, Danielle Carey, a 40-year-old resident of Godley, Texas, was tragically killed in a shooting incident. That evening, at approximately 7:14 p.m., Carey made a distressing 911 call, reporting that her boyfriend had shot her. She pleaded, "There's blood everywhere. Can you please help me?" After this initial plea, dispatchers received no further response from her.
Law enforcement officers from the Godley Police Department and the Johnson County Sheriff's Office promptly responded to the scene on West Allen Avenue. Upon arrival, they found John Tuttle, a 60-year-old man identified as Carey's boyfriend, in the backyard of the RV the couple shared. Tuttle was armed, but officers successfully persuaded him to drop his weapon. Subsequently, deputies approached from behind, deployed a taser, and took him into custody. Due to Tuttle's presence and the potential threat he posed, emergency medical personnel were unable to reach Carey immediately. Once Tuttle was secured, they attended to Carey, who was found on the porch with a fatal gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following his arrest, Tuttle was transported to the Johnson County Jail. However, authorities refrained from questioning him that night due to his apparent level of intoxication. The following morning, Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Judge Ronnie McBroom set Tuttle's bond at $750,000 on a murder charge.
