On May 19, 2024, during the annual Jeep Weekend event on Crystal Beach in Port Bolivar, Texas, 33-year-old Troy Anthony LaCour was fatally shot. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. near the intersection of Kahla Drive and Gulf Shores Drive, close to beach barrel #75. Emergency responders found LaCour deceased at the scene. Two other individuals sustained injuries during the same shooting: one man suffered a chest wound, and another was injured in the hand.
