On May 26, 2024, a tragic incident unfolded in North Richland Hills, Texas, resulting in the death of 48-year-old William (Bill) Edward Platt Jr. Born in Tyler, Texas, in 1975 to Ed and Carolyn Platt, Bill moved with his family to Waxahachie in 1988. He graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1994 and later from Lincoln Technical Institute in 2000. Throughout his life, Bill resided in various Texas towns, including Waxahachie, Wimberley, and the Fort Worth area.
He was known for his deep affection for dogs, having adopted several canine companions over the years.
The fatal event occurred around 3 p.m. in the 7500 block of Windhaven Road, where an altercation between neighbors escalated into violence. Upon responding to a 911 call, officers found Platt in the front yard of a residence, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was promptly transported to a nearby hospital but, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries.
The alleged shooter, a 60-year-old male neighbor, remained at the scene and was taken into custody by the North Richland Hills Police Department. At the time, authorities withheld the suspect's identity and the specific charges pending further investigation. Details regarding the cause of the dispute that led to the shooting were not immediately disclosed, as the investigation was ongoing.
In the wake of this tragedy, Bill's family chose to honor his memory by requesting donations to local animal shelters in lieu of flowers, reflecting his lifelong love for animals. Cremation services were arranged, with no immediate memorial service planned. Bill is survived by his parents, his sister Carrie Ryan and her husband Robb, his brother Jeff, and his beloved dogs, Scooter and Bowie.
