On June 8, 2024, at approximately 6:01 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to reports of a shooting at the Waffle House located at 12304 Dessau Road in northeast Austin. Upon arrival, they found 25-year-old Tykeisha Lewis suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced deceased at 8:21 a.m. A second female victim was also injured by gunfire and was hospitalized in stable condition.
The investigation revealed that an argument had erupted between two groups in the restaurant's parking lot. The confrontation escalated when a group of males opened fire, striking both women, before fleeing the scene in a black Dodge Durango.
In the days following the incident, APD released photos of four male suspects, described as Hispanic with short black hair, aged between 16 and 20, seeking the public's assistance in identifying them.
By July 8, 2024, two suspects had been arrested in connection with the shooting. Eighteen-year-old Irving Antunez-Sanchez was charged with first-degree murder and booked into the Travis County Correctional Complex on a $750,000 bond. Seventeen-year-old Emmanuel Perez faced the same charge. Both arrests were facilitated by tips from the public and corroborated by surveillance footage and cellphone data placing them at the scene during the time of the shooting.
This tragic event marked Austin's 25th homicide of 2024. The arrests underscored the importance of community involvement in aiding law enforcement to bring those responsible to justice. APD continues to encourage anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward.
