On August 1, 2024, 36-year-old Joel "Boy" Holguin of El Paso, Texas, tragically lost his life in a shooting incident in Socorro, a neighboring city. The events unfolded on Valle Verde Road, where Holguin and his longtime friend and neighbor, 39-year-old Oscar Rodriguez, were reportedly drinking together at Rodriguez's residence. He subsequently confessed to the shooting and led investigators to the location where he had left Holguin's body. Rodriguez was arrested and charged with murder, with his bond set at $500,000. As of November 13, 2024, he remains in custody at the El Paso County Jail Annex, awaiting a jury trial scheduled for September 11, 2025.
